Friendship program

ABOUT THE Friendship program

Building and maintaining friendships has been linked to well-being in early adulthood and even academic success.  Not all children develop social skills at the same rate.  Our friendship program is specifically designed for children in 2nd to 5th grade who are struggling with relationship skills with their peers. We have an initial assessment for each family and determine whether your child will benefit from our program.

How does the friendship program work?

Our program is 12 sessions with the goal of assisting your child in connecting with other children so they begin to feel improved self-worth and confidence in their ability to make and maintain friendships.

During each session the parents and children separately learn new skills.  The children practice the skills in the group during play activities while the parents are coached on how to support the new skills through weekly assignments.

What is the secret to our success?

We have fun while slipping in the skills, and as their tools and strategies improve so does your child’s confidence in their ability to make friends.  We focus on:

  • Talking with other kids
  • Making a good first impression
  • Being a good sport
  • Dealing with being teased
  • Being a good host on a play date
  • Showing respect to adult supervisors

We can help your child to gain the confidence they need to have more successful play-dates and most importantly, sustain friendships with the tools they learned.
