Meet The Team

Fatemeh Farahan, LMFT

I have been fortunate during the past twenty-seven years to be doing what I love most—connecting with others and making a difference. By establishing a caring and trusting bond with each of my clients I am confident that we can work together to help you follow your path to healing and growth.

My many years of experience combined with extensive advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Therapy, addiction treatment, ADHD certification, and Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples allows me to use many tools and strategies to quickly get to the heart of your concerns and focus on the underlying reasons that inhibit you from making progress toward achieving your goals.

I have created Farahan Therapy and Associates with the latest scientific advances in psychology in mind, offering you many alternative therapies, such as Neurofeedback, Virtual Reality Therapy, and FDA-approved stimulator and animal-assisted therapy, to create the easiest way for moving ahead and experiencing joy and connectedness. My ultimate goal is to provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to live your life to the fullest extent possible.

Amira Sheikh, PsyD., LMFT

I believe therapy is an interactive process where the client and I collaborated to develop clear insights and specific skills leading to a more fulfilling and balance life.

My approach is warm, relaxed, and connected. I am dedicated to supporting my clients wherever they may be reaching from. Having training and experience in a variety of modalities, including Emotionally focused couples therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) allows me to compassionately work with clients with a wide range of interpersonal issues. Each individual coming to my office brings their own unique set of strengths and together we build on those qualities to deal with the challenges and develop resilience for coping with stress and difficult emotions.

As an Adjunct Professor with Master level students at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, I am extremely passionate about being of service not only to my clients but also to my students passing on my knowledge and expertise to future generations of therapists.

Navabeh Jordana Pezeshkan, LMFT

My role as a therapist is to create a safe space, which can encourage you to peel the layers of defense and get to know yourself. The process can help you recognize your wants, needs, unique set of skills and strengths, which you already have. My goal is to help individuals leave the burden of confusion, guilt, and distress helps them to establish a new narrative that holds clarity, acceptance, and compassion.

I work primarily with children and teenagers. My belief is that childhood experiences greatly shape who we became as adults. My aim is to teach kids that it is okay to express and feel your emotions. I work collaboratively with children in both individual and family therapy sessions primarily focusing on treating anxiety, and depression disorders in children and adolescents. I use evidenced based treatment modalities such as TF-CBT ( Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Seeking Safety, CBT ( Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT( Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). I also specialize in conflict resolution with children and teens coaching and teaching children the skills necessary for healthy emotional and social development that will help them throughout life.

Freddie

All my son wanted for his fifth birthday was a dog. I looked on-line for several months before seeing Freddie’s picture and story at a shelter in Lynwood. He apparently had been on the streets with people throwing water on him and abusing him. The woman who had rescued him from a kill shelter told us that when she initially saw him he was a grayish, black color with all his hair matted. He had been aggressive and they were planning to put him down, but she had cleaned him up and taken him to her shelter. When the grime of the streets was washed from him, he was actually a white cream color! When we arrived at the shelter all the other dogs were barking except for Freddie. My son immediately went up to him and said “Mommy, I want him.” When they brought him out of the enclosure he was hiding behind the shelter staff, shaking, and his face was so sad that I actually had tears in my eyes. We instantly fell in love with him. The shelter informed us that because we had two cats at home, they would allow him to come for a trial week. On the ride home he shook all the way. Once we got him home he was instantly part of our family. He was so loving with both my son and the cats. He instinctively would sleep next to my son at night as if he knew my son was scared of the dark. Signs of his traumatic past presented themselves by his timid nature around food or cautious approach around strangers. As the months moved forward we noticed more and more his loving and kind disposition, as well as, an innate ability to calm my son’s fears at bedtime. I realized that Freddie could be of service to others and had him trained to be a therapy dog. He became a fixer in the office welcoming the patients at the door and created a calming presence in the room for those with anxiety and feelings of depression. He does great work transitioning people’s fears of dogs to then believe that dogs were safe and could be trusted. He is a valued member of our team at Farahan Therapy & Associates, but more than anything else he is a member of our family.
